Rev up your engines, today I'm going to help you decide which car should you buy. Now I've been working on cars for 50 years, so I know what cars used to be good, what cars aren't good anymore, and which cars have been good most of the time, but there's only one me, if you're looking for an honest mechanic to tell you in your area, you might end up like Diogenes, spending your life with a lantern, in the vain search for an honest mechanic and you can't find one, so I'm going to give you a couple of rock-solid tips, to find out whether a vehicle you're looking at is a good vehicle and it's worth buying, or one that you should run away from.

First don't pay any attention to these awards that they give to models of cars, many of them are given by advertising companies, they get paid to say their client makes good cars, don't pay any attention to that stuff, but there is information you can trust, like Kelly Blue Book, you can look up the value of cars, and if you find that the car's value plummets as it gets older, it's not a very good car. But take a Toyota Camry in 2014, an absolutely loaded one came for about $30,000, and today when it's about four years old, a fully loaded one goes for about $19,500.

Let's take a 2014 mercedes-benz s550, it started with an original price of $93,825 for a base model, but now that it's four years old, it goes for $44,000 -$52,000 with an average about $51,000, so you're losing over $40,000, so you're losing about $40,000 with the Mercedes, and only $10,000 with the Toyota, and believe me as they get even older, the range gets even further, you get a 10 year old Mercedes, you might lose 90% of the value of the car by then, which would be almost $80,000.

Now, another good source of information are technical service bulletins, those are things that are known problems with cars that we Mechanic can get, now look at a 2010 Land Rover, see how many of these technical service bulletins there are, as we pan down and start scrolling down there's a whole bunch of them, actually there's 163 on this model, now let's check out the technical service bulletins for a 2010 Ford Fusion, and as you can see, as we scroll down there's a whole lot less of them, there's only about 50, so the land rover has three times as many technical service bulletins, so three times as many known problems as the Ford has, so that's a very good way, if you see a bunch of lists the technical service bulletins for the car you're thinking about buying, don't buy it.

My last tip is a simple one, don't buy any brand new model of any car, you never know if they made any mistakes, I've seen cars that they might not fall apart for two or three years, so buy a model that's been made for quite some time, that they haven't made any radical changes, if they made radical changes, wait, and then be like me, buy them when their used, where they cost less, and they proven not to have problems.

How Does the Rent to Own Rims Program Work?

Are you having issues trying to buy those new rims? Instead of buying your rims rent to own them. For everyone who like to great looking rims you know that the costs of these rims are not cheap. So if you just have to have the best rims and you cannot survive without them what are you to do? One option is to rent to own these new rims. Yes, companies are renting rims for you own so you may obtain the best rims for car now!

These days car parts are very expensive especially if you want your car look its best and have style. With the rent-to-own rim program you fill out a small amount of paper work with the finance company and many times as little as $20 for a down payment and they hand you the rims. It is much easier to pay a small amount each month for those awesome looking rims than it is to save over a long period of time to obtain them. Many times you can even get programs that if you pay off your rims in 90 days there is not interest charge.

Once you have given the financial company the above information you pay a little money for a down payment, they give you your new rims and you are set to roll.

With so many stykes and sizes to choose from be sure when you are looking online that you have the correct size rims that will fit your vehicle. In order to obtain the rim size for your car you can look up the measurements by the vehicle and type of tire or you can measure the existing rim width at the widest point, and then measure the rim walls. You will also need to decide the profile for your rims. By using the internet you will have the ability to shop for many different style rims without leaving home.
Once you have your rims you can either put them on yourself, or find a shop that will do this for you. Many times online companies also have shops in your area to mount the rims. Once you have chosen the perfect rim based on style, terrain, and personality you have the option to apply online, or go to the store to complete the paper work for your new rims.

Don’t let the word financing scare you off from getting the perfect rims. Financing rims through rent to own program isn’t like purchasing a house or a car for there is very little aggravation when filling out the paper work for your rims. It doesn’t take much time or paperwork. The finance company works with you based upon your income for a reasonable monthly payment.

Installing a 12v Power Inverter in an RV

There are a couple of things to keep in mind when installing a 12v inverter in an RV. Whether it be a motor home, a 5th wheel, or a popup trailer, the installation concerns are the same.

The first and foremost thing that you should concern yourself with this type of installation is wire gauge. The farther your inverter is from the battery, the heavier the wire should be. With low voltage 12volt power that will be supplied to the inverter from the battery, long wires mean voltage loss. If you have 12.7 volts coming out of a freshly charged battery, you might only have 10 volts that actually reach the inverter if your wires are too thin and there is a long distance from the battery to the car power inverter. Not to mention, using too thin of wires may cause them to get hot and cause a fire.

If you are going to install the power inverter in the front of a 35′ RV and the batteries are in the rear, you’ll need to use really heavy gauge wiring. Most power inverters will have a chart in the instruction manual that tells you what gauge of wire to use depending on the distance. If you have to use 30 feet of wire to supply power to your inverter, you might have to use 6 gauge wire. Wire gauge is backwards from how you think it should be. 12 gauge wires are thinner and 8 gauge. Lower the number, thicker the wire. Be sure and consult your instruction manual for the gauge of wire you should use for your particular installation.

Next you need to make sure that the wires are secure and out of the way. You don’t want to run the wires on the inside from the battery, in front of the couch, down the hallway, taped to the wall in the bedroom and then finally get to the inverter. They’re likely to get stepped on and it will look awful. Either run the wires secured along the frame rail under the RV or trace the wires that are going from the battery to the power converter and fuse panel and run the wires in the same space.

Lastly, be sure and install the inverter someplace where it will be out of the way. You don’t want to install it someplace like on the counter next to the sink. It’s likely to be in the way there and it could possible get wet and destroyed. A better solution might be to fasten it to the bottom of the cupboards with the provided mounting screws. This way it’s out of the way but still easily accessible. A better solution still would be away from water all together. Water and electricity don’t play well together and can create a dangerous situation.

Oh, one last thing. Be sure and screw the inverter down securely. Many people get lazy and skip this step. Inverters come with mounting tabs and hardware for a reason. They last longer if you can minimize the vibration the are exposed to. Screwing them down will limit the amount of vibrations that your inverter will see as it’s traveling down the road in your RV.
